Teacher Development — Common Questions
How difficult is the DipABRSM Teaching Diploma exam?
The DipABRSM Teaching Diploma is a recognised professional teaching qualification from the Royal Academy of Music. The exam covers a live teaching demonstration, viva voce, and written components — all of which demand rigorous preparation. With systematic coaching and targeted practice, practising teachers are absolutely capable of passing, and many achieve Merit or Distinction.
How is the teacher development programme different from regular piano lessons?
This programme is designed exclusively for practising piano teachers who already have a performance foundation. The focus is on teaching methodology, exam diploma preparation, and addressing real-world classroom challenges — not on learning piano from scratch.
What level do I need to be before enrolling?
A minimum of ABRSM Grade 8 (or equivalent standard) in piano performance is recommended, along with some teaching experience. If you are unsure whether you qualify, please reach out via WhatsApp — Ms. Kwok will assess your current level and suggest the most appropriate starting point.
How long does the programme typically take?
Most teachers complete the programme in 10–20 lessons. Each lesson can be one hour or an hour and a half, depending on what fits your schedule.
Can I focus sessions on a specific teaching challenge?
Yes. The programme is highly flexible. Teachers may bring any repertoire, teaching topic, or area of personal professional interest — including how to handle different student types, explaining technical concepts clearly, or structuring lesson plans effectively. Every session is tailored to what matters most to you.
