We generally recommend starting from age 4 to 5, though students of any age are welcome. Lessons are tailored to each student's age, background, and goals — from young beginners to adult learners.

Complete beginners through to advanced players (including ABRSM Performance Grade) are welcome. Whether your child is picking up the piano for the first time, preparing for exams, entering competitions, or looking to overcome a plateau, the right programme will be designed for you.

Piano lessons are one-to-one, ensuring every student receives fully personalised attention in each session.

There is no fixed timetable. The time needed varies with the student's current level, foundation, understanding and practice. We first assess where the student stands, then set a suitable preparation direction — rather than a fixed number of lessons or a promise of a particular result.

Consultations cover: setting a clear learning direction, planning a complete ABRSM grade progression, and professional teaching technique advice for practising piano teachers. Suitable for students, parents, and music educators.

The programme is designed for practising piano teachers who wish to raise their professional level and prepare for ABRSM Teaching Diplomas (DipABRSM, LRSM, etc.). One-to-one study sessions are also available for teachers who wish to focus on a specific topic or repertoire.

Yes — regular home practice is essential for steady progress. If a piano is not yet available, an electronic keyboard or digital piano is a suitable temporary substitute. We recommend sourcing a digital piano with weighted keys as soon as possible to develop correct touch and technique.

Lessons and consultation take place at the teacher's home piano studio in Tai Wai / Sha Tin, Hong Kong, where students come for lessons. Students from Tai Wai, Sha Tin and nearby areas are most welcome; learners from other districts are welcome to enquire via WhatsApp. Lesson times are arranged flexibly to suit each student.

Of course. It is never too late to start, and adults' comprehension and focus are often an advantage. Whether a complete beginner, returning after years, or preparing for grades, you can learn at your own pace and goals.

There's no single answer. Progress depends on foundation, understanding, quality of practice and involvement — it varies from person to person. We set a suitable direction after understanding the student, rather than applying a fixed timetable.

You can look into a starting arrangement first. If beginning on a digital piano, check that it has enough keys (88) and weighted action; whether to buy an acoustic piano can be decided later by the student's involvement and the family's situation.

There's no absolute standard. A suitable start depends on the child's attention span, hand development and interest, not a single age. The key is finding a way that matches the child, rather than simply chasing an early start.

Yes. Before entering an ABRSM Grade 6, 7 or 8 practical or performance exam, you must first hold Grade 5 or above in Music Theory, or the equivalent Practical Musicianship / Jazz Practical Grade; Initial to Grade 5 have no such requirement.

Practice is about quality, not quantity. Rather than forcing a number of sessions or a length, arrange short, focused practice to the student's age and life rhythm. The actual arrangement varies, and we work out a sustainable way with the family and student.

Yes. You're welcome to book a trial via WhatsApp with a brief note on the student's background and goals, and we'll arrange a suitable time. The trial runs about 60 minutes, where the teacher assesses the student's current level and suggests a suitable direction.

The two are close in standard and standing, with no absolute 'better,' only 'better suited.' The differences lie mainly in exam structure, compulsory components and the theory gate: ABRSM has compulsory sight-reading and aural and requires Grade 5 theory before Grades 6–8; Trinity is more flexible, offers an improvisation option, and has no theory prerequisite.

No. Graded exams are one way to review learning, not the only path. The meaning of learning piano can lie in the joy and growth music itself brings; whether and when to take grades can be explored with the teacher.
